Chanel reproduced designs inspired by 16th century and renaissance paintings. Her standards for the outcome were high; the stones had to be bold, the intricate byzantine designs had to be sharp, and the jewelry had to look freshly excavated. Chanel would often combine natural and imitation stones in a single piece. Natural and imitation pearls would often feature in the same necklace, ring or brooch. Gripoix crafted them in a sublime way making it impossible to tell real from the fake.
Vintage pieces now more than ever are desired by the younger generation, especially the 1990’s Collections. Pieces from that era demand high prices due to their rarity and collectibility.
