Queer Eye’s Tan France and model Gigi Hadid will team up to host the Netflix design competition show Next In Fashion for its second season.
Next In Fashion has found its season 2 hosts: Queer Eye‘s style expert, Tan France, and supermodel Gigi Hadid. The series follows designers from around the world who are competing for the grand prize of $250,000 and a debut collection with the luxury retail site Net-A-Porter. Tan was also the host of the first season, which premiered on January 20, 2020. He cohosted with fashion designer and writer Alexa Chung, and the show received a lot of praise from fans. Despite its popularity, Netflix announced in June 2020 the show would not be returning for another season. However, the show is now making an unexpected return with Gigi in Alexa’s place.
As a model and designer herself, Gigi has plenty of fashion knowledge that will significantly benefit the show’s contestants. Gigi has graced the cover of fashion magazines like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle several times. She’s walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show three times and collaborated with American fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger for four collections titled TommyxGigi. Likewise, Tan has his own plethora of fashion knowledge, acting as the fashion stylist on Queer Eye, where he helps the hero of the episode shift their fashion sense from their current and sometimes dreary style to something more fresh and flattering.
Tan announced the exciting news about him and Gigi’s new venture on social media Monday night. The star posted a series of photos of him and Gigi on Instagram to inform fans that despite cancellation, the show was back. The stylist captioned the post, “Who would have thought when we met over Facetime 4 years ago (thanks @evachen212) that we’d be hosting NEXT IN FASHION TOGETHER! You read that right! The secret’s out.” The comments were flooded with fans expressing their excitement for the show’s return and their enthusiasm about Gigi joining the cast.
Gigi has had a public friendship with Queer Eye‘s Fab 5 for a few years as the six stars are often spotted out together. The stars seem to hang out in the same circle as one of Gigi’s best friends is pop superstar Taylor Swift, who featured the Fab 5 in her 2019 music video for her song “You Need To Calm Down.” The stars also hung out together for Gigi’s birthday one year, and Jonathan Van Ness even posted a special birthday Instagram post referring to himself and Tan as the model’s “guncles” (a combination of gay and uncle.) According to Tan’s Instagram, casting for the second season is now open for all aspiring fashion designers.
Tan and Gigi have both acquired a large and devoted fanbase from their work in the fashion industry, and their fans are understandably excited to see the two work together. Gigi has been in the industry since she was a baby, so it only makes sense that Gigi would accompany Tan for Next In Fashion season 2. While the model has taken some time off to parent her baby daughter Khai, she’s ready to make her return, and the Netflix series seems like the perfect re-start. There’s no further information about the new season, but with the positive reception of the show’s new cohost, the two are sure to have a successful run.
